Oral Histories

We record conversations with artists in their studios and then work closely with them to clarify and edit the transcripts. In some cases, these oral histories, which include visual reference, are an amalgamation of several separately-recorded sessions. The process we followed for each is delineated in more detail in its introduction.

You can download PDFs of these oral histories directly from our website. If you reference or quote from them in your own work, please be sure to fully cite “The Vision & Art Project, an initiative of The American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF).”

“[There] are two kinds of disturbances of the eyes, stemming from two sources – when they have been transferred from light to darkness and when they have been transferred from darkness to light.”
